Computer eats CD rom drives

Heh, i got a 98 first edition that goes through a cd rom drive a month, or less
any ideas???
i tried everything
no virus
replaced drivers
once dead, cd roms stay dead
and cannot be used by any other computers

if you have any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated!

Software cannot render a cdrom drive useless. That's a hardware problem.

Unless you are talking about the CD's themselves?

How are you connecting them? To which IDE controller on the motherboard? As Master or Slave?
