My pc saves all graphics as .bmp

My pc saves all pictures you save with right-click as bitmap files, no matter what format it is in. Even animations. I know this is some setting, as it has done it before and corrected itself during some setting change. Now it happened again, and I don't know what to change.

I run Windows 98 operating system. Somebody please help!

try deleting all of the files out of your temporary internet folder
