User.exe

Every once in a while while surfing the internet, I get an error ,message saying
"Explorer has caused an error in USER.EXE, explorer will now close."
Any ideas why I might be getting this and how I can fix it would be great!!

Cheers

Hi TommyBoy - it might help if we can see what's running on your PC. Go here and download the latest version of Hijack This to a new folder on your drive, unzip it and run a scan. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Hi TommyBoy - you have some parasites running on your PC and your winsock has been corrupted.

Firstly, download, unzip and run LSPFix.exe from here on the affected PC. Just run it so it reads the list of LSP modules from the Windows registry and verifies that each module is present. Then hit "Finish" and let it automatically correct the misnumbered or missing entries. Reboot afterwards. If you have any connection problems after we remove the spyware, run it again and you should be fine.

When you have done this, have a look in Add/remove Programs in Control Panel and see if there are entries for New.net or NewDotNet and ShopAtHomeSelect Agent or SAHAgent. If there are, uninstall both programs. If there is no entry for New.net, download and run the New.net uninstaller from here. Reboot afterwards.

Next, close IE and all open windows and run Hijack This again. Check the below entries and click on Fix Checked.

Ok heres the new one, I'm not sure if it affected it any, but I kept having to pull the power because it kept freezing on me when I went to reboot, but I think I managed to do what you said. As well I'm not sure why, but every time I entered this website, I kept getting a "Runtime Error, Line 275, Object expected." Other than that everything when well

Thanx again

Hi TommyBoy - your log looks fine now and your winsock has been repaired. Open IE and go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and check "Disable Script Debugging" and uncheck "Display a Notification about every Script Error". Reboot again and see if you still get the Runtime Error. Also let us know if you are still getting User.exe errors.
