Hardware acceleration

What is it? And how does it work? I just rebuilt my PC from 95 to 98SE (In 95 the game worked perfectly btw)I mean, I was having a problem with playing The Sims...my PC would hang and die on me. Someone suggested that I should try turning down the hardware acceleration...and it worked!! WOO HOO! I get to play!! So now I want to understand this because the game is VERY choppy when I try and move around in it. So, why do I need to turn it down? Is there a problem with my video card? (3D Blaster Riva TNT2) Or is it a windows thing...and can it be fixed? I dont understand at all what this thing does...Except that I turn it off (all the way down) and Sims works...WOO HOO! I turn it on and my PC dies when I play the Sims...D'oh! So can someone explain exactly what this means about my system...and is there any work around? Thank you...

Darkclouds,

Have you considered updating your videocard driver ? Check out the creativelabs website for an update.

I would also check out the game manufacturers website for a patch because some games do have problems with certain video cards that are later fixed with a patch.

Then try upping the hardware acceleration to get things moving at a decent fps again.
