Fatal Exception

When I click the start button on my desktop I get a blue screen with the following message. A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:FF0100C6 in VXD KS(05) + 00006026. The current application will be terminated. If I hit enter it takes me back to my desktop and I can click any ICON to enter an application. The only what to turn the computer off is to use the power switch.

Hi ltctom22 and welcome to Cyber Tech Help

Try downloading this VXD Fix executable from the following website Revolution

It can in some cases resolve the blue screens, and resulting shutdown problems.

Give it a try and pls post back with results, and there are more options to consider if this doesn't work...

OK, so now we're gonna try some other things....

Pls right click MyComputer and click properties.

Then click on the Device Manager tab of the window that will have popped up.

Do you see any yellow exclamation marks (!!!) ?

Next, please click Start / Run and type in MSCONFIG and hit Enter.

Then click on the Startup tab of the window that will have popped up. Please note down all you see in this window. This will tell us what programs you have loaded when you turn on your computer.

Also, could you please give us a system specs rundown of your PC pls.

Including the Amount of RAM you have, PC make and model, CPU speed and make, videocard make and model, soundcard etc.

The above mentioned ideas are to help us see exactly what is happening with your computer.

Lastly, did you install any new hardware or software prior to this starting ?

Thanks,

MishY

You might also want to try running the System File Checker.

To do so click Start / Run and type in SFC and then hit Enter.

Choose to scan for altered files and have your Win98 CD handy incase it needs to replace any files.

Spoke to a friend and we went through the steps of my download of the VXD Fix that you suggested and that seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks so much for your recommendation. That sure is better than what was recommended by the firm that I have for my extended warranty. As usual their only recommendation was restore.

Thanks again
