mp3 problem
hello everyone, i hope someone can help me.
i bought my computer few month ago and my mp3 never wanted to play on winamp, napster or in windows media player. i have 64 of ram, a pentium 400 and a cretive soound blaster 16 or 32, not sure... i have no preoblems for cds or media files. i reinstalled my sound card driver, nothing good happens. there is no exclamation point in my device manager except at wave device for voice modem. i have sometimes a error messsage like "your sound card is already in use by another device" and it's look like a sound never stop to play, as i can see in my volume control. so that's it thanks

Hi,
Is this an MP3 imparticular or all MP3's ? Are winamp or WinMedPlayer set to be the default player of the MP3 file type ? If you have your modem drivers reinstall the driver for it and that should clear up the modem problem. You may have to remove it in device manager - reboot - then reinstall the drivers to do that. If you don't have the drivers go to the manufacturers website and you will be able to download them there. MishY

Hi,
The wave device in device manager you were talking about is the voice part of your modem that is having the problem and this could well be related to your sound problems. Just out of interest can you hear sounds from games, other file types of music ? If not, check to see which IRQ your modem is using and which IRQ your soundcard is using. To do this click start>programs>accessories>system tools>system information then click on + next to hardware and click on conflicts/sharing MishY

Hey,
Ok, one last test ![]() Click Start/Run and type in DXDIAG and hit enter. Click on the sound and music tabs of the DirectX diagnostic tool and perform the tests. Does it give u any errors ? Can you please give us the make/model# of both your modem and soundcard. Also can you state whether your modem is an internal or external modem thanks. MishY

yep, yep,
for the easy part : my sound card is a sound blaster 16 from creative and my modem a 56k v.90 from us. robotics. for the model number, i will have to open the box, no time today... much harder : when i do the directx test, everything is ok when my computer just start. everything except in the music test, when i use the microsoft synthetiser i don't heard a sound and when i use the sb16 midiout, everything freeze. but when i try the test when my memory is no more virgin, i receive error messages. for sound : Sound Test Result: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x8878000a (The request failed because DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by another caller.) and for music: Music Test Result: Failure at step 6 (Activating the IDirectMusicPort): HRESULT = 0x8878000a (The request failed because DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by another caller.) also, i can see a bit of sound in my volume control (wave line) that just don't want to go... from where come this sound ???? sometimes i think i should give this computer to some scientist for hard tests ! az

Did you install the driver for the wave device that was part of your modem ?
When you reinstalled your sound driver did you do it in safe mode ? and remove the soundcard so windows could then install it itself ? Lastly which version of DirectX are u using ? MishY
