Exclamation wild, uncertain 2K floppies

Have installed windows 2K on two machines, and the 3.5" floppy does not function properly in either one now. The floppies functioned fine when they were XP machines. Even bought brand new floppies, to no avail. Symptoms are the drives read and write fine, but fail on format and certain copy evolutions where it appears that the drive size is in question (?) as it looks like the application (various, e.g. word, etc.) attempted to save a file that was too big for the floppy. I tried to fix this several times over the past year, and have searched Intel and Micron sites for info (since they're Intel motherboards & Micron retial), but come up with zero. What is going on might be that the motherboard is not compatable with the floppy controller in 2K (since both computers are the same brand it's suspicious).

I have given up, after all, who uses a floppy anyway? But love a challenge, and there is probably someone out there who understands what is going on (Micron's best kept secret).

My First thought was the floppy controller is having an IRQ conflict, althought that seems almost too simple.
