Was wondering what files I should backup so that if I have to re-install Windows 2000 pro I do not have to re-install all of the other programs and so that I do not have to reset all my preferences, desktop, etc?
I know that windows has a backup program that gives you the choice of doing a backup of the system state. Is this all I need or is there any other files that would have to be added?
Thanks in advance!

I consider your data files as the most important ones to backup.

Folders of your E-mail correspondence needs to be backed up if you want to keep them.

Basically I would do a full-drive backup like a Drive Image to cross backup one hard drive to another.

Power Quest (http://www.powerquest.com/driveimage/) is one.

Ghost (http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal/) by Norton

Just to name a few.

Thanks Tweaker,
I'm aware of the full back up programs available but I was wondering about files for my windows configuration only. I do a lot of video editing and conversion and this seems to cause a lot of problems with windows requiring re-installation. I'm just looking for a short cut so that I don't have to spend a lot of time re-installing everything else in windows and setting up the personalized settings every time. So to clarify, does a system state backup do this or are there additional files I need to back up?
