DNS Probs
Just loaded Windows 2000 Pro. I am having problems getting onto the internet. I have DSL. I can ping IP addresses but cannot resolve URLs. I would rather not reload the OS. Has anybody had this experience? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Is this an "always on" DSL connection or do you need a user name/password to connect each time you want to go online? For an always on connection, you may need to get the primary and secondary DNS addresses. Your ISP can provide this info, but they will make you jump through a bunch of hoops first.
Otherwise, have you tried detecting the network settings? You can do so via the "page cannot be displayed" error page. In my experience this will only work one in ten times, but it's worth a shot. If not, call your ISP and try to get the primary and secondary DNS addresses from them whether it is an "always on" connection or user/pass connection. |
