Spaces left in Folders

This is not a major problem but one of them niggling things that annoy you and I`m sure it never happened with win98.
Whenever I delete a file from "My Documents" folder, There is a space between the files, where that folder used to be. It doesn`t just happen with my documents folder, it is all of them. Tried rebooting, no joy.

Under View, scroll down to Arrange Icons and when the slide out box appears, check Auto Arrange.
