Lately when i go to certain sites, some of the boxes are blank with a red x in them...for example, when i go to register at a site and you have to enter the security code the box has the X in it...also in some sites the icons beside names are just blank.then when i return to the site the icons are there,i noticed this happening after i downloaded a download accelerator called Freshdownload,i unistalled it and removed all entries from my registry, but the problem still exists,it"s not serious but it is anoying.

Hi Irish_Guy
Give this a look over, I believe it applies to your specific issue.

Every so often when nothing else works but you need to see the image you can try, after the page is completely loaded, to right click on the red x and choose "Show Picture"
But this is certainly not a permanent solution, I'd still follow tweakers advice.

Thanks for the recommendations..very much appreciated...i already checked out what you suggested before Tweaker....plus cleaning my hard drive and everything else possible....i guess the only conclusion is to reformat if i want to rid myself of this.your quick fix works just fine enat66.once again thanks ....(UPDATE) Well i finally discovered how to solve my problem, the red X can be caused by many things...but this fix worked for me :)
IE6 seems to have a bug regarding third-party namespace providers.
Some of the types of offending programs may be download managers,
personal security software, ftp clients, popup ad blockers, and so on.
This fix may disable some functionality in those programs.
To make IE6 display small images again, delete the following registry
keys if they exist:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\http
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\https
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\ftp
The only key that should exist under
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler is
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\mk.

Irish Guy Thank You!! I was having a similar problem and I thought it just had to do with server lag and the server not serving the images fast enough...it seems to always work now, your fix did it:) I hope you continue to come back to CTH:)
