D-Link Wireless Network HELP!!!

Hello All! I am having a problem with my D-Link Wireless Internet Network connection. I have the DWL-520 (i think the A/B style). Basically, everything is fine until my roomate sets up his "security" tab on the main computer. Once he enters in my IP address to allow me to use the signal, I can only stay on-line for another 5 minutes before I am kicked out. So, he has to allow the security to remain "open" so that anyone in our neighborhood can jump on the signal. I am not very technically savvy, so I hope this makes sense to you. Do you know of any setting on my computer or my roomate's computer that will fix this problem?
