I believe if you have the windows 2000 cd you can boot it up through the cd.

Make sure you make the "CD" to boot FIRST under boot sequence. You can do this by pressing del when restarting..and by going to BIOS.

Go to "Boot Sequence."

If you cannot boot from the CD (bios won't allow it), or you prefer not to go into the bios area and make the temporary change to that effect... then go to:

http://www.bootdisk.com

and download the 4 images for the 4 W2K boot-floppies; save to a hard-drive; (self-)expand each to a floppy; use those floppies to boot/run W2K setup.

Ok, did you try the windows 2000 cd?

We have a great tutorial located here. (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/html/tutorials/tutorial.php/id/50)

If you don't have a anti-virus program, you can go here (http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm) to check for viruses.

This should shed some light on that issue.

*Also The ERD disks are not meant to be bootable. You have to start the install process from the Windows 2000 install CD, or Install floppies and then select the repair process. From the Windows 2000 Getting Started booklet:

To restore your settings from the Emergency Repair Disk

1. For Intel-based computers, use the Windows 2000 Setup disks or the Windows 2000 Professional CD to start your computer.

After Setup finishes copying files from the Setup disks, the system restarts, and text-based installation mode starts.

2. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press R to select the option to repair or recover a Windows 2000 installation.

3. When prompted to enter the type of repair or recovery option required, press R to repair a damaged Windows 2000 installation.

4. Click either Fast repair or Manual repair.
Press M for Manual repair if you want Setup to selectively repair system files, the partition boot sector, or the startup environment. Manual repair doesn't repair the registry.
Press F for Fast repair if you want Setup to automatically attempt to repair system files, the partition boot sector, and the startup environment. The registry Setup restores is the one created when you first installed Windows 2000. Fast repair doesn't require additional user interaction.

5. Follow the instructions that appear and insert the ERD when prompted. If you have the original Windows 2000 CD, you can have Setup verify your disk (check for corruption).
When the repair process is complete, your computer restarts and Windows 2000 runs.

It's too late to create an ERD-that's meant to be created immediately after an install when everything is running correctly from within the operating system, not from the cd. My ERD has 3 files on it:autoexec.nt,config.nt&setup.log which is a text file that points the repair utility to your .inf files so the repair can be done.ERD is machine specific ,the setup.log file is created specifically for the hardware on your machine.
You can make your 4floppy bootset on your daughters' computer-just browse your WIN2000 install disk to the "BOOTDISK" folder and run "MAKEBOOT".
The MS Knowlegdebase Article that Tweaker referenced is probably the best plan of action to follow now-atleast you can save your data if any of those fixes work.

edit:
this page will show you how to do a repair, including the commands you may need: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318752&Product=win2000#3

edit#2:
was just browsing the WIN2000 installdisk... TheMS Knowledgebase article that Tweaker referenced says a bootsector virus maybe one possible cause of your problems. Just learned that there's a bootsector virus scanner on the WIN2000 installationdisk. Browse to: VALUEADD\3RDPARTY\CA_ANTIV -read the
textfile. Sweet! I didn't even know this was here.
