PlayStation

Hi, my kids, have a PS/2 and a Nintendo N64 connected to separate TV screens. I wish to place both in the same room but space is an option, could someone tell me if it is possible to connect either directly to a flatscreen monitor and what, if any adapters are required.
Thanks

Well if you are talking about connecting the N64 and PS/2 directly to the tv you have some options:

If you're tv has 2 sets of inputs (a set would have the red and white for sound and a yellow for video marked input or "in") You could then plug them in no adapters at all

If tv has 1 set of input jacks you either could get a switch or some sort of special cable or you could just have the kids interchange then (not too hard, yellow goes in yellow hole, red goes in red etc)

Option 2: have one plugged into the input jacks and buy an r/f adaptor for the other one that taps into the cable line to the tv

If tv has no inputs
You'll need an r/f adaptor for both the ps/2 and the N64 unless you get a universal one, you should be able to attach both to the cable line without much trouble, but I've never tried this (although it may degrade the cable quality if you are a high definition junkie) just turn to channel 3 or 4 (you might want to set the different systems to different channels on the rf adaptor)

If we knew what kind of inputs your tv had it would be easier.

Hope this helps

Question

Hi Enat, thanks for the quick reply but the answer is not what I was looking for (probably due to a poorly worded question). The monitor I was hoping to connect the devices to was a PC LCD unit, without involving the PC. I have heard of VGA adapters but I'm not sure if they are what I require.

Oh sorry my fault...when I reread your post I realise I mistook "flat screen monitor" for "flat screen tv".

Gors100, go to www.maplin.co.uk and search for item L05AN (thats a zero). It comes up with a "scart synch seperator". This will allow the RGB output cable from a PS2 and N64 to be converted to a 15 pin D-plug to your monitor.
Only drawback I can see is you would have to manualy move the d plug between the switch unit and a pc if you want to use the monitor on a pc.

If you are in the States, I'm sure Radio Shack will have something very similar.

Good luck.
