lost w2k password, want to format c:, how to do it?

So this is the case. I've got a computer which has Win2000 OS protected with a password that i have lost. I'd like to format the c: drive and install Win95 on it.

Any ideas how to do it? I can't get to windows because of the password and don't know how to get to dos before it starts up loading windows....

There is a fantastic FREE utility that will let you reinitialize a Windows NT based password. (NT and 2k. I haven't tested on XP yet.)

Anyways, be sure to read the FAQ. This utility is straight forward, and easy to use. Here's the URL

Lost Password Workaround XP-2K:
If 'Administrator' account cannot be seen

If 'Administrator' account (not a users account with Admin status) has its password left as per setup default (not many ppl alter it) then:

1 Start in Safe Mode
2 Press return for Administrators password
3 Create new Admin Account
4 Re-boot

1) U need to have a floppy drive or a cd drive.
2) U can get bootable floppy/cd of the opetating system u like to install.
3) Go to the CMOS setup by pressing delete button when u switch on the system.
4) In the booting sequence select the first device as the floppy/cd which ever
bootup device u have and disable IDE 0/1 and others. Save seetings and exit.
5) When u switch on u r PC by putting the bootup device u r system would boot to
. since win2k is not loaded into u r system u can delete or format any drive u want.

Please Reply me and tell whether it works.
