Is the built-in firewall in the Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch sufficient or is a firewall such as Outpost, ZoneAlarm, etc... needed? Thanks for any responses.

IMO it is always better to have both software and hardware firewalls.

ZoneAlarm etc. are good because you can choose which programs to allow access to the net.
