My computer at work has a hard time shutting down. It shuts down certain applications, then I get a 'end task' window for 'iexplore.exe' or 'javasupportenabled'. The computer will never shut down no matter which option i choose in the 'end task' window.

any suggestions, my work IT department has tried once and they're too retarded to do any good.

thanks

Hi Jfoersch

Here's something to take a look at, might fix your issue.

is this a recent development? Did the computer ever shutdown? If it at onetime shutdown but now doesn't I'd try some of the free registry cleaners available at:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads15.html
http://www.webattack.com/freeware/system/fwregtools.html
these regcleaners fix lots of problems including shutdown and restart issues.

you may want to try updating to the latest servicepack-they're designed to repair operating system issues

I have Windows NT at work.

my computer used to shut down correctly, but for the past couple months, it won't. My IT guys tried to fix it, but got it nowhere.

I usually get one or two "end task" menus when i shut down.

1. msjavathreadservices
2. iexplore.exe

both say that are not responding, i click 'end task' and window goes away, but the computer just sits there. If i try to select Shut Down again, the computer will lock up.

It sounds like something(s) is/are running in the background which is holding up the shutdown. (Besides the obvious "end task" messages you're getting, which might be coming up because of whatever is running.) You might want to try checking for spyware & trojans. I like AdAware (http://www.lavasoft.de); lots of people like SpyBot and HijackThis.

I'm not sure, but our IT dept is usually good about installing new software, etc on everyone's computers from time to time.
