I have upgraded from 98 2nd Edition to Win ME a couple of months ago and have been having problems running Scandisk and Defrag to their completion. When I run Scandisk, it stays at 10% for up to a day or so and I manually stop it. Defrag will not work until I completely run Scandisk to completion. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does this happen with standard or thorough, or both?

The problem may be due to programs running in the background interuppting defrag, try booting up in safe mode and then running defrag
not sure about the scandisk problem but I had similar trouble and it turned out to be a duff HDD (I dropped it) I partitioned off the damaged areas and all was well
