networking w/o a hub?

Hello,

For quite a while now I have been trying to connect (link) two computers together using serial ports and usb connections, together and individually. But I have run out of Idea's and am asking for help in this endeavor. I overheard two people talking about it. Has anyone done it? Is it even possible?

Imput appreciated!!!
Thankyou for your time;

you would be a whole lot better off using a router or hub. Maybe this site will help.

You can do it with a NULL cable. I have never done it but have had a few friends do it successfully. Do search here at the forums on that. Use "Null Modem Cable" as your search term.

Basically I believe that it is a special modification made to a CAT5 data cable that swaps the pin positions of two wires to handle the transmit/receive properly. It can only be used on two PCs.
