View Full Version : Wirless vs DSL

My area is about to have both Wireless internet access and DSL....feeling the need for speed after 7 years of dialup. :)
Basic plan for Wireless(with 6 gig throughput) is going to cost the same as DSL.
We are not big downloaders so either option should be fine for our use. My question: simply is one better; in anyway, than the other? Anyone's ones opinion would be appreciated.

Personally my decision will be based on setup cost but overall I would lean towards wireless.

Thanks Dan...it seems that Wireless is a little more for setup. My only misgiving about the DSL is that it will be moving over some copper lines within our home(and the last 50-60 feet from the terminal to our home) and therefore slower???

Actually, DSL will be 'moving over copper' a lot longer than that - and all things being equal, wired is generally faster than wireless.
Consider the whole package tho. Is mobility something you want in your home, or will your PC sit in one spot? Do you plan on connecting more than 1 PC? Is a laptop in your future? How does service rate for the two companies?

Thanks zipulrich...appreciate. I guess I didn't mention that our town is serviced by fibre optic except from the box at the back of our property into the homes here. the wireless folks sell three speeds the basic is supposed to 25.6 kbps download and 6.4 up. The DSL in their advertising quarantee 2 M but suggest it will probably be 3 M. Understand the wireless terms but need further explanation from the DSL folks on what they are talking about.

This is a bit of a followup to the thread I started back awhile. I now have the wireless connection; my question is this with the plan I have we are capped at 6gig per month does anyone know of a program that will keep track of our throughput. Don't expect we will ever exceed the 6 g but would like to watch it for a while. Tks
