W2k lost admin pw

My thinkpad 600E reverted to requiring an admin PW, which I don't have, to log onto W2k Pro, after a year of requiring a user name and pw which I do have. This happened when I was attempting to set up file sharing on my new local wireless LAN. Now I try to delete the admin name and put in the user name and PW which it won't accept. This computer came from a corporate environment where it was used to log onto the corporation network. I had earlier deleted as much of that corporate net sign on stuff as I dared. I do not have the W2kpro disk and don't really need the pro capabilities. Can I crack the pw? Or get it to go back to my user name and pw? Or simply buy WinXP home and start from scratch. There is no data on the machine that I need so erasing the HD could be an option if I can do it without signing on to W2k.
