Would somebody please help me. I am at the public library's computer as I write this. this morning i received something like this upon rebooting... windows\system\bridge.dll could not be found. well being illerate, i went ahead and got online after running adware protection by LAVASOFT. it always remove any spyware and malware. in fact, i had been getting the above error for the past 3 days but was still able to get online even though i kept getting those "THIS PROGRAM HAS PERFORMED AN ILLEGAL OPERATION" prompt from time to time. well this morning when i rebooted my computer, that prompt came up again and when i click okay it disappears but now nothing comes up but wallpaper. i have never seen nothing like this before. how do i get my icons to come back up onto my desktop? i can't get online at all nor can i do anything on my computer. all that's showing is wallpaper...nothing else...sniff...can somebody help me???

Welcome to CTH babydoll. Can you see your Icons etc when you boot into Safe Mode (restart your PC and tap F8 as it restarts)?

If you can, go here (http://www.sherrylynn.us/HijackThis.exe) and download the latest version of Hijack This to floppy and save it to a new folder on your drive. Unzip it and click on run a scan. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

As of now, what's happening is that the prompt "the program has commited an illegal operatoin and will have to close" comes up and I can see the task bar, but none of my desktop icons appear. When I click on the task bar to open favorites (hoping to get online so I can get some help) it simply stays busy.

No, i have not tried rebooting in safe mode...never knew how until you told me. Thanks, i will try that. if that doesn't work, is there anything i can go to circuit city and buy, since i can't get online to fix this?

Thanks for offering your help...preciate it

Hi babydoll - we dont know what the problem is yet. If you can boot into Safe Mode, run Hijack This and post the log back in this thread.
