Hello. I am on a three computer network. We connect through a switch, that is connected to our DSL modem. In my network connection properties, we have a private setup of 192.168.0.xxx - The other two PCs are able to get out online just fine, and can connect to any type of server (IRC, IM clients, Gaming Servers). My PC on the other hand, can get online, and browse the web, and connect to one or two instant messenger clients, but it cannot connect to anything else. It cannot connect to IRC servers, game servers, It cannot connect to the AOL instant messenger service, or anything that requires a direct connection of any kind. I have tried redoing my network configuration many times, but to no avail. I am about tearing my hair out here trying to fix this, any help would be very greatly appreciated, thank you.

howdy, ok, first off, if youre sharing a inet connection, you MAY want to throw a router into the situation, however, you dont have to. i imagine you manually set up all ips? and which computer actually connects to the internet? give me a more detailed rundown on your network (node ips, gateways etc) and i will try to be a better help, because im sure its a simple solution :)

Since you have a 192.168.0.x address, it appears you already have a NAT layer in the mix, are you sure that that "switch" isn't really a broadband router? How about some actual model numbers, not to mention what versions of O/S you run...

Alright, sorry this is such a delayed post. I recently moved. The problem still persists. I am connected directly to the internet, by way of a cable modem. I still cannot connect to any of the things that i mentioned. Is there some kind of virus that disables these kinds of connections or something?

Does your switch have a configuration?
It may only be allowing access to these programs for a limited no of PC's on the network.

e.g.
On my router I've set it to only allow 192.168.1.100 to access P2P, MSN Messenger etc.

The other PC's won't be able to download from those apps.

Sorry, should have caught that in your previous post.

Do you have a Firewall or Web Filtering software running? (including XP Firewall)

No. No kind of firewall or internet protection. Well i have it running normally, but nothing is running now, and still nothing can get in or out.
