When I connect my Muse digital camera to windows 2000 pro usb hub, I get the following error message:

"An unknown device has exceeded the current limits of its hub port

Recommendation
Disconnect the device and then click 'Reset' to re-enable the port. If

you click 'close', a reboot will be required to regain the port".

The recommendations does'nt fix the problem. I tried to resolve the error by reinstalling windows without success.

When I install the driver that came with the camera, I get the following:

"The software for this device is now installed, but may not work correctly.
This device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)".

How many Devices attached to the HUB? Does the HUB have it's own power source?

The hub is built in, depending on the motherboard you may have one or more hubs with the usb ports divided among them. each port has a max power available. For example:

My system has 2 usb hubs built in, both self powered, with 3 ports on each hub, with a total of 500mA available per port. this information is available under device manager.

could be your port is failing, try attaching it via a different port.

MaDef You suggested something interesting; "could be your port is failing, try attaching it via a different port".

How can i do that?

I thought It might be helpful to identify you my troublesome machine:

Microsoft windows 2000
5.00.2195
Service Pack 2
Computer:
X86 Family 5 Model 8 Stepping 1
AT/AT Compatible
65,204 KB Ram

I was just guessing. :)
Most motherboards come with 2 or more usb ports, plug the camera into one of the other usb ports (if available). and see if it will work correctly.if you have any other usb devices, you may have to unplug them first, and use that connection.

The information you provided isn't much help, (sorry). If you can provide the make and model of the camera, (I went to the muse site and there are alot of cameras listed) and the same for the motherboard, it would make it easier to track down any hardware issues .If you aren't sure what motherboard you have,
download AIDA32 (http://www.aida32.hu/aida32-download.php), it's freeware. Install it, click on the program click on motherboard, click motherboard again, and the information you need is on the second line. post the info back here and we'll see what we can do. :)

AIDA32 Failed to Identify Motherboard. I also tried Fresh diagnose and got the following result: sorry, your motherboard doesn't support SM Bios. We suggest you to upgrade. Belarc Advisor Produced the following results:
Main Circuit Board
Bios: 12/28/99
System Model 470CDT v6.90

The Digital camera model (Muse Velo 3600 Digital camera: Web site http://www.muse.com.hk/product/digitalcam/velo3600/index.jsp?lang=en&tid=)

I'm going to guess that your system is a toshiba laptop model 470cdt? If so I think you have too much camera for that system. your bios is 5 years old you should check for an update.

I think whats happening is the camera is drawing more power than the usb port can safetly handle, so it turns itself off to prevent damage (kind of like a curcuit breaker)

Thats about the best guess I can make with the information I have.
