I installed a Samsung SP0804N 80 Gb hard drive(4 partitions) and switched my old Maxtor 13 Gb to slave. I used Norton Ghost to clone the old info to the new drive. It will load OK one time then go to safe mode the next.

I see a new line during start up that says "boot from ATAPTI = CDROM Failed". I did not change anything in the Bios it is set up to boot from: floppy, HDD, CDROM. If I put the old Maxtor to master it loads like always. No "boot from ATAPTI= CDROM Failed".

The new drive has all my data if I can get it loaded it works fine. Sometimes on the new drive I will get a message something like "error in registry let windows repair" I tell it to repair it but nothing happens. I tried to unhook the old drive and just run the new but it still does not work right.

System :
AMD Athlon 650 MHZ
Biostar M7MKA mobo
448 MB Ram
ProLink 5200 Ultra Video Card

I used Norton Ghost to clone the old info to the new drive. Did that include the Operating System??

Was the partition you cloned to a lot larger then the original partition you imaged it from?

I cloned the entire drive Operating System and all. I think my problem has to do with having 2 copies of the same system on the same machine.

After my last post, I got an OE fatal exception error at 0177:BFF9DBA7 & 17B7:00008FB3 when I closd my browser.

Restarted

Norton One Button Checkup: No Errors

How do I get everything to work again? I don't plan on keeping both copies of Windows 98 installed I just did not want to lose my original setup until I was sure the other was going to work. Now why would I worry about something like that?

Reformatted and started over. System is working ok now. I think that I may have not set the primary partiton to active. I have one copy of windows on this drive now. From what I read the second would not work anyway because the second partition started above 8 GB.

Also some of my problems were caused by a Nvidia driver. I installed the latest version on the rebuild and am not having any problems other than a couple of games that won't work.
