wireless networking speed
hi..have just wireless networked my pc and laptop and no problems getting them connected and talking but its SOOOOOO slow. It's supposed to run at 11 mbps and the connection has 'excellent signal strength' - 96% but the actual speed is 1 mbps and too slow to even open files from laptop within 20 mins. Have given up waiting!
Seems to be ok accessing internet (hence on here!) but again very slow. Can someone tell me what I can do to speed things up. Cheers. |

what type of network do you have 802.11b or 802.11g?

Well, the real speed of 801.11b networks with WEP enabled is probably about 2-3mb maximum, and can vary depending on the specific adapters in use. If you need more speed, I suggest 802.11g hardware...

well it was 802.11b but took the whole lot out and replaced it with 802.11g which should operate at 54 mbps - but the same happens! Again the signal strength is excellent or very good, but the actual speed is only 1 mbps and therefore almost impossible to open any files on my main pc. Have got three machines running on 'ad hoc' basis ie peer to peer, but only two are online at any one time. Still don't know why so slow even with 802.11.
Any help gratefully received! |
