Hello

I am running W98SE. I have 2 hard drives.

I use the smaller one (C:) for the OS and the larger one (D:) for storage.

I had to reformat my C drive and once that was completed I had no D drive.

I can't access it at all.

It shows at start up as the primary slave, it shows everywhere but 'my computer'.

In systems, device manager it shows but with no drive letter assignment and that area is grayed out. I have removed it from there and rebooted but it shows again but still not accessable.

We have removed the drive and booted the machine, turned it off, plugged the drive back in and restarted and still no go.

I really don't want to lose all my data, can anyone help me get this drive to show without having to lose all my data?

Thank you !

Can you access it from DOS?
At bootup press F8 (or CTRL) to get the boot menu.
Choose to boot to Command Prompt

type
D:
then press return to access the D drive. Does it work? Any messages?

also type
Dir
then press return

YOu can also see if the drive is setup correctly by using FDISK

at the command prompt type
FDISK
then return

When in the program choose option 5
5. Change current fixed disk drive
This will give a brief run down. Select the second drive

then choose option 4
4. Display partition information

The FDISK program should indicate if the partition are still on the disk.
File System should be FAT32
