After rebooting...

here is the problem, I'm running a linksys cable modem into a linksys befw11s4 wireless router, with one computer hardwired and one wireless on the network. The system worked fine until I upgraded the computers. what I did was Upgrade my mobo, cpu, and ram. I then took my old parts and upgraded the other computer, all other hardware remained the same, I reinstalled os's and drivers with no problems. The fly in the ointment is when I reboot the system with the wireless card in it. The network icon shows that the nic is unplugged, when I try to activate it, the following message pops up. "wmp11 is not installed". I've uninstalled and reinstalled the card, drivers and software numerous times, and each time I have no problem gettting a connection, until I reboot the system. Then I get the network unplugged icon. If I put the driver cd in, click on install, I get a message stating that wmp11 has already been installed and to uninstall before trying to install again, But the network automatically kicks in at this point without any further input from me. this one has me baffled

MADEF,
I am experiencing the same problem. In the past I have had success using the Linksys WMP11 using the Windows 98 Operating System. It wasn't until I performed a clean install of Windows 2000(no overlays) that I started to witness the problem that you're running into.

1). Load the WMP11 CD to install hardware and associated drivers. Establish parameters for the network card(i.e., SSID, Ad-hoc/infrastructure, etc.) I'm able to connect with my network and voila, everything is fine. I use my computer for whatever and then I shut it down to return the next day for more fun.

2). Boot up my machine and Windows 2000 has detected "New Hardware"...the WMP11 network card. WTH!! I humor myself and place the installation CD into the drive, Windows 2000 proceeds to load everything again. Naturally, when the Linksys "Welcome" screen comes up I select the "SETUP" icon. Upon doing this, I then receive the "Package already installed" informational message. I then go to Settings, then Control Panel, and then I go to Add/Remove Programs to remove everything and I re-load everything for the WMP11.

What I'm doing is essentially toggling! Everyday that I use my machine, Windows 2000 detects a new device and I have to go through the same rigamarole again and again. My thoughts are something is going awry in the registry. I would think that once Windows 2000 has discovered a new device, it would keep a record of the install somewhere in its labryinthine repository.....but it doesn't! I have used this card using Windows 98 and I did not experience this problem. Windows 2000 on the other hand is giving me fits on the usage of the WMP11 and the WVC11B.

I have been running a wireless network for a couple of years and i enjoy it. I have a Linksys Wireless Access Point and a multitude of Wireless devices attached.
1). Wireless Access Point attached to a Gateway Tower(Linksys NIC included).
2). Hewlett-Packard Pavillion Laptop with Linksys Wireless PCMCIA.
3). Hewlett-Packard IPAQ Linksys Wireless Flash Card.
4). Sony DVR-3000(Tivo) with Linksys Wireless USB NIC
5). Playstation 2 with Linksys Wireless Ethernet Bridge
6). Homemade Medium Tower(AMD Chipset) with Linksys Wireless WMP11. '*" - works, not consistently.
7). Linksys Wireless WVC11B Internet camera '*' - software loaded properly, but it does not recognize the camera.

Maybe you and I could chat and try to find some other similarities. Something has to be "up" with the registry, but I'm not "bold enough" to deal with it. It took an act of God to get Windows 2000 on my home built and I don't want to go through the hassel of re-loading or going back to Windows 98(even though it is the most stable Windowss Op that I've used in years.
