readme files

I did a search on the site, but couldn't find an answer.

My son says that everytime he opens a readme file, the printer starts printing it out. He wants to "read" it, not print it.

What settings can we change so that readme files don't do this?

Try reinstalling the printer software and/or drivers. www.driverzone.com is a good place to look for updated drivers.

how is he trying to open the readme text? What is your operating system? Without that, it is tough to tell how to check file association, or you can look it up in your windows help.

We have Windows ME.

I'll ask him after school how he is trying to open the files. I just assumed it was like when I have downloaded programs, they often have a box offering a "readme" file and I just say no to that. I figured that he must have checked yes to it or clicked on a link.

I'll let you know. And thanks.

Right-Click on the File and choose Open With...
Then choose Notepad
(You can also check the Always use this program box if you wish)

Suggest running a virus scan to be on the safe side as well
