Computer speakers

I can't get any sound from my computer. I have a set of headphones jacked into the back and they worked for months. then about a month ago, it stopped working. No sound will come out, no matter what media program, website or whatever. Once in awhile, a loud crackling sound will come out.

any ideas?

Sounds to me like you should try updating your sound drivers. You'll need to know what soundcard you have (or if your computer comes from Dell, Hp etc, the model number) and then if you tell us this we can help you find the right driver. If you don't know how to find out what sound card you have just ask.

i have a Compaq, Deskpro EN. As for the soundcard, I find something called SoundMax, but i'm not sure what version.

Can you try other speakers?
Could be that your speakers have died.
