When I run a scan of my system in XP, I receive an error on one of the network adapters, as follows:

it looks like your comp doesn't have the proper config for dns servers. try ipconfig /all and look for your dns servers (i bet there are none). try to ping an internet name address like www.yahoo.com, if you get destination unreachable, it will support what i say above.

but it does look like your connected (im assuming to the inet).

i need to know what your network topology looks/configured like to give more intsructions. dont forget what os either.

I am running XP Professional. The result from the ipconfig / all yields some setup under "Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection" which makes reference to a connection specifix DNS suffix which is blank. Below that there is various setup information including the physical address and other IP information. Interestingly, when I run the same diagnostic I no longer fail the test. Perhaps the problem was with the ISP and it was temporary?

Somewhat related, I see in the diagnostic a note on the DHCP Server line indicating the IP address of 255.255.255.255 is invalid. Do I need this setting for DSL?

Coincidental to all of this is a horrible problem of receiving constant pings from unknown sources. It is all blocked by ZoneAlarm, but slows down my system and is very suspect.
