View Full Version : Sound Playback Problem

I run Win98SE (largely because although I meet Win XP in my work, I hate it a lot!)

For the last few months I've had a strange problem with the sound on video files. The problem appears to occur on most forms of video - certainly it's there on avi files, wmv files and on rm files. It also occurs on wav files. I therefore deduce that it it not a problem with the playback softare I'm using (various types, including Adobe Premiere), but is somehow system or setup related.

The problem is simple - the files play at the wrong speed. Speech is rapid and relatively high pitched, though still perfectly intelligible.

The videos - from many sources, including my own captures - appear stable and visually normal, though I assume that the pictures are also playing fast, since synch remains perfect.

Any suggestions as to where I should look, and what may be the cause of this bizarre anomaly would be appreciated, as I may have to do some professional video work before long, and this problem will need to be solved first!

Have you tryed to reinstall the video and sound drivers?

Haven't tried that - seems like a good idea, though. I'll try uninstalling anything that looks relevant in Windows, and then reinstall it.

Indeed, I may just give up and upgrade to Win 2000! If your thought is right, that would probably fix things too.

Thanks for the suggestion

All you have to reinstall maybe the sound and video drivers...that means you simply have to run 2 executable files and it might fix it, reinstalling everything is not necessarily necessary.
