Hijacked Modem ...

I think my modem has been hacked ... since I accpted a Installation from the Web and I lost control over my modem ... when I dial up a message pops up saying that the modem in all ready in use and all ready dialed ... one thing I could asure you that I'm not using my DSL any more ... any suggessions to get DSL working?

The fist thing I would do is install and run some form of Anti Virus. AVG is free and works rather well. ******THIS HAS BEEN EDITED DUE TO CONTENT*******. Also you may want to run one of the popular trojan scanners. Swait and A2 are good. After a good scanning and cleaning if everything checks out I would hit the "reset" button on the back on your dsl modem. That will put the modem back to the defaults it came with. I hope you get it worked out good luck:)

See if you can download a copy along with the reg number from a friends computer then install and run it on yours

run spybot or adaware (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/browse/0,cat,1443,sortIdx,1,00.asp). run hijackthis (http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10227352.html?tag=lst-0-1) and post the log it creates here.

Finally do you have a firewall?

What I told him to download is free for personal use. The reason I told him to download it *****EDITED FOR CONTENT***** because if his computer is un-useable how can he get the prog?
