since activating my dr watson....ive noticed my system resources really changer quite a bit between running programs. what is a safe level of operation...or a better quaetion might be, what % is to low on system resources, and can it be optimized? i would assume that when it drops to 47%, that that is bad?

Hi
47% is good :)
10-15% :(
with your resources (being different from RAM) they'll go up and down with what your using at the time... if you close a program and it doesn't hand the back the resources it's used it's got a leak (the progrm u were using not your comp!)and this can usually only be taken back by a reboot but unless it drops to 10-15% don't worry to much about it.

ok cool.....i did notice that % goin up and down accordingly to the amount of programs i was using.....and some programs didnt give back the resources.....(mainly win media plyr!!!)....i guess i will get in the habit of shuttin' down my computer every night!
??? for ya.....would using a wallpaper that was a bigger file(like the yosemite you sent me, and even a screen saver)take up more system resources?

Morning :)
some will some wont ;)
You might notice that some will pull more of your GDI resources but 'generally' speaking you shouldn't notice a difference. Your screensaves will be different as it'll depend on whether you have a static or animated one... it'll come down to playing around to see which, if any do.
On my system there was no difference between using yosemite bmp or jpeg :)
don't worry to much about having to shut down your system everynight if you don't normally do this... a quick reboot every now and then when it's needed does the trick.
Media Player is one of those that tends to be a bit clingy with your resources  but just keep your eye out for the patches and updates as they come thru

Hi George,
You can also keep an eye on your resources by running the resource meter and system monitor for a while. They can be accessed by going to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. This should help you get a better idea of how much of the resources you are using with wallpapers, screensavers, and programs you have running in the backround.
You can also stop programs from running in the backround by going to System Information and then Tools and Startup. After you uncheck something, it will require a restart. Just be careful what you uncheck.
Windows ME is infamous for eating up resources.

CiP
