Hi there folks,

when I go into Safe w/ Comm. Pr., My system just boots normally with the words Safe Mode in the 4 corners and eventually goes to a blue screen and then home page for Int. Explorer. The problem I would like to solve is what PROCEDURE do I use, once I choose Safe Mode w/Command Prompt, to get back to that black screen with the list of Dos Commands? And is it possible to reset or change values in the Windows Registry? Sorry if I am not very clear here............

I would like to enter this mode again, even if it won`t help with my current problem. You see, I have a Dell machine that was given to me to try and make run.(Win2k) the person who used it has moved away I can`t reach her,she changed her phone no. She didn`t leave the admin passwd., so I cant delete all the old junk, cant use e-mail,etc. I heard you can get control of machine thru DOS, or at least the registry, which is good enough. Please Help

When choosing SafeMode with Command Prompt windows should boot to the login screen (or automatically logon as Administrator)

It should then automatically load the Command Prompt.

If it doesn't then press CTRL+ALT+DEL to open the task manager.
Click File>New Task (Run...) then try CMD and press OK. This will open the Command Prompt.

You can't really alter the registry from a Command Prompt although you can run Registry Tools such as Scanreg etc.

For the second problem, if you have someones old PC with their files and OS I would really recommend Formatting the PC.
