Partition Problems

Just purchased Partitionmagic 8 in order to set up another partition to install Windows 2000 along with Win98. Attempted to make a partition and received a 2003 error message, while in DOS, which is "file size does not match FAT allocation for file". Looked at error list on Powerquest and recommendation was to run scandisk to repair error. Tried running from desktop but hung up at "hosts". Booted Norton Disc Doctor from floppy and hung up at "hosts". "Hosts" File is located in Windows directory and has a SAM extension.

Anyone have any advice as to what I can do to continue?? Please!!

Hi Welcome to CTH

Run scan disk in DOS.

1st try START | RUN type in Command.com hit OK

At the C:\> prompt type in scandisk

If that doesn't work then reboot hit F8 to get into menu select Command Prompt, then try typing scandisk. Once it fixes it, reboot and try Partition Magiic.

In my opinion when you do set up W2K I would use a FAT partition. Dual Booting, that way you will not have any problems between partitions. NTFS is more secure but W2K works well with a FAT 32 partition.

Thanks for the help. Corrections were made while running scandisc and I was able to run Partitionmagic. Every thing is working great.
