Media Player Locking Up

As of a couple days ago, media player was working fine. Could play mpg links from emails or internet without any problem. Now when I click on the mpg link, media player opens, says connecting then locks up. If I click on mpg link and save as file, then I can play. I reloaded internet explorer and upgraded media player to 7.01. No change. Any suggestions?

Do you have a Firewall that allows/restricts access to the net?
Make sure that the media player has access.

Firewall is Blackice and I have not changed settings recently. I stopped the engine and tried an mpeg but still same result.

What Operating System and what Media player did you have before upgrading?

There could be some spyware involved
Do you have a spyware scanner?
Spybot is a good one http://www.safer-networking.org/
