Computer keeps restarting!

Hello everyone. I figured that this morning, I would try to see if I could get the scanner working on my computer. I haven't been able to get my scanner to work on my HP 6535. so I tried to install it from the scanners applet in the control panel. It only gave me 2 types of ports to install it from. One was COM1 and the other was LPT1. I chose COM1. Now all of a sudden. The computer keeps restarting on me. What can I do to do this? I don't want to have to reformat the computer and load from scratch again!

first of all, uninstall the scanner and change all settings back to where they were. Then post your operating system and your scanner information.

I got it fixed now. I had to uninstall all the scanner stuff.

Windows 2000 Professional
UMAX Astra 2100u scanner.

The scanner will work on my dell computer. That has Win98 on it, but it's an old computer. Manufactured in 1997.
