Hi Guys...welcome back.

A friend and I both upgraded to Windows ME around last July. Within the last week or two he has complained that his PC has shutdown at odds times for no apparent reason.

He has been told that this is a known problem with Windows ME and that he should uninstall WME and go back to W98.

I'd be interested to know if you can confirm there is an issue with WME. Also, is there anything he needs to do/or be aware of if he does decide to go back to W98.

As I said at the beginning the problem has only arisen in the last couple of weeks and it only happens on the odd time.

I think most of us experience odd quirky things from time to time and I question if what he is being told is kosher.

Hi :)

my experience is somewhat limited to the 100's rather than 1000's of ME installations but in my (humble)opinion unexpected shutdowns are not a 'known' issue. Hardware compat/driver issues are an issue when upgrading but as his system was working aok up till recently the problem may lie with anything from 'sagging' to hardware failure to software conflicts to power management issues... and on and on.

just remembered the other part to your question  sorry... if he wants to uninstall ME the simpliest way is via Add/Remove Prog if he saved previous version but as with everything he'll need to do some serious backing up and in some cases he'll need to revert back to the previous drivers etc
