Email, Anti-Spam, and Virus Scanners

Hello I am starting to get spam in my email addresses, something that never happened before.

I use Eudora to access my email. I have the free avast! anti-virus scanner scanning my email as it comes in by putting itself between eudora and the server. I want to have something that will filter the spam, but most of the free spam filters out there also work the same way that the anti-virus scanner works and you can't have both at once it seems. The problem comes in is that my Eudora won't let me specify the port it checks for email. They have directions on Spampals website, but they are not for Eudora.

What do you recommend for email clients? (free please)

Is there another solution?

Well here is another solution....Mailwasher and it is free,it is only good for one e-mail account and the pro version is good for multiple accounts . MailWasher allows you to preview all aspects of your e-mail before you download it. It also allows you to delete and bounce e-mail back to the originator; the sender will receive an e-mail saying the address was unknown. Another feature helps identify and mark e-mail as Normal, Virus, Possibly Virus, Possibly Spam, Probably Spam, Chain Letter, and Blacklisted, so you can deal with the e-mail as you wish. Other features are comprehensive customizable filters, use of public blacklists to identify spammers, visual and auditory notification of new e-mail, minimization to the system tray, and much more. MailWasher is compatible with POP3 e-mail.

I agree with the previous message. i am using mailwasher pro and it is great. I really recommend using it for your email. It is amazing how much spam it catches because of the blacklist dns server. You will never even see alot of the spam.

I have outlook 2003 and the only time I open it is after looking at my email at their respected servers and delete the ones I do not want to download. I use it for hotmail, yahoo (subscription service), and several pop3 email accounts.
