need some help w/rundll32.exe
to whom it may concern,
first off, thank you for your efforts. second, I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this particular problem.---- When I start my computer it boots normally untill it comes to the programs that open automatically. One program in particular "Rundll32.exe" is causing some of the rest of my programs to freeze up. Once I bring up the task manager by pressing the ole' cntrl-alt-del and closing it, it gives me no further trouble untill the next time I boot up. I have tried running scan disk on all my drives, but this does not help. I have tried defragmenting my computer, but this does not help. I have tried running virus scan on my computer, and on the file itself, but this does not help. I have tried deleting the program, however when I do this I am no longer able to sign on to the internet. Thus I am stuck in a vicious cycle and I am dangerously close to seeing if my computer can fly when it is dropped out of a window. I hope I am just missing something obvious...let me know.....thanx Johnnie doe |

What is your OS?
For windows 98 Start System File Checker start>run and type sfc.exe then hit OK. Click Extract one file from installation disk. Type the name of the file in File to extract, RUNDLL32.exe Click Start. In Restore From, type the name of the folder where the .cab files are located on your installation disk C:\Windows\Options\INSTALL. Then save file in C:\Windows Click OK. |

If extracting a new version doesn't work, then it's most likely that a particular program is malfunctioning or you may have some rouge piece of software. Runddl32.exe is used by other program and by Windows that loads DLL files into memory. If you get it to close out sucessfully then have no further issues, then it's probably a particular program that's gone astray because runddl32.exe will get used again eventually.
Try using the msconfig utility, Start/Run then type in msconfig and press the Enter /Return key, and check the startup files. Check the following link to get a better understanding of the msconfig utility: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;281995 Also, check the following link for ways to troubleshoot startup issues in Windows ME: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=273738 Hope this helps. |
