Firewire 1394 interfere with NIC

hey all, i'm trying to setup a network between 2 computers connected to a dlink router connected to a cable modem. internet works fine, but am unable to setup network between 2 xphome machines. when i add a network place and get to choose the network card it gives me the choice of the nic and the firewire, i choose the nic, but it still uses the firewire. anybody have any ideas?

i have fixed the problem. had to uninstall firewire instead of disable. install network connection before rebooting, re-boot then let xp install firewire. thanks to anyone who was thinking about this problem.
