I'm having serious problems printing with my HP Deskjet 695cprinter.
have tried uninstalling and re-installingwith no success.
I seem to have lost my LPT1 port, and going into setup at start, I notice that LPT2 comes up as the parallel port!
All of these problems seem to have started when I tried to connect two computers with a parallel cable so as to swap files between them.
I eventually abandoned this effort, but am not sure if I cancelled correctly any changes made at that time.
My printer toolbox tells me that original printer files cannot be found or are corrupted and advise using original disks to reload drivers, but I got the PC with everything installed so don't have the original floppies!
I have tried the HP online diagnostic setup, but get error that "this program has committed an illegal action and will be shut down"
I can print a test page by pressing and holding the top bitton on printer, so mechanically the printer seems to be OK, but if Itry to print a test page from the troubleshooter, it flashes up that printing is inprogress and the printer icon appears briefly in the lower corner of screen ,then disappears!and no test page issues.
Can someone point me to any previous posts with similar problems and solutions, or failing that, can anyone help?
Thanks

I would try clearing all references to the ports & printer and reinstall.

First, remove the Direct Cable Connection tool from Add/Remove Programs.

Then remove the LPT port from Device Manager.
Also remove the Printer from the printer control panel.

When you reboot windows should reinstall the LPT port.

You can then reinstall your printer.
You can get the drivers from the HP website
