We have just installed this new broadband thing and I have correctly plugged the wires in. When I loaded Windows I saw the LAN connection icon...but when I opened Internet Explorer, this dialup connection thing keeps popping up and teling me to connect. By the way... the page doesnt load either...

try the following, in msie, go to tools, internet options, connections and make sure nothing is selected on this page. While there, click on lan setting and make sure automatic detect settings is selected. close the browser then reopen.

Also on the Connections tab choose Never Dial A Connection.
You may many to check your DUN settings incase there is a rogue dialer installed.

Windows XP home is pissing me off.
My friend got a new Linksys router and I stopped by and set it up for him. Works snappy with his cable modem. I reset the computers in his home office to DHCP and everything seemed OK.
However, the laptop, which is XP Home using wireless, keeps getting the dialup window popping up at random times. Can't delete the Dial up option, because it uses that away from home. We have set the Dial up to "Do not dial" but it keeps resetting to "dial when needed."
Same symptoms happen with his wired-in XP Home main machine. Random attempts to dial. He needs dialing for a special client, but it is not on all the time, so that got ruled out.
It does not happen to the third, Win98 machine.
So we've tried Anti virus, Spybot, AdAware, and even deleting the dial up networking and creating them new. Nope. DUN pops up randomly and starts to dial. We've also turned off sharing the shared folder. And to reemphasize, we have gon into the internet settings and turned off the dial when needed box, to no avail on both machines. Both machines have MS updates installed.
If Microsoft hadn't been such a putz by making sharing manditory in Home, we could disable that. But nooooo.
Anyone have any more suggestions?

Welcome dcjenson,
You should really start your own threads. :)
Do you have a software filewall on the PC?
A program such as ZoneAlarm will popup and tell you what is trying to access the net and you can allow or deny it.
You may find that it is a specific program setting that has been set to dial up, such as AntiVirus updates etc.
