Question Sharing a printer

I am thinking of installing a wirless home network using a 54mbps router to share a broadband connection. How can I share a laser printer without having to have a print server switched on everytime I print on another computer?

So the only way of sharing a printer on a network is by using a print server. These seem quite expensive for what they do! Is there no other way of allowing my laptop to share my desktop's printer without having the desktop switched on?

No, if you have the Printer attached to the PC then the PC will have to switched on to get the connection to the printer.

Can the printer not be connected directly to the router some how? Or can I connect a standard print server to the router instead of a wireless one??

Not unless it has a built in print server.

I don't think the Linksys range.

SMC, IOGEAR and US Robotics offer them
