External Hard Drive Help Needed
I'm trying to expand my computer by connecting an 80 gb external USB 2.0 Hard Drive. For audio and video files ( Approx 30 gb's worth). It's installed and can be viewed in "My Computer". First question, does it have to be formated in the "Full" mode? Or can it be done in "Quick" (Erase). Second question is Scan Disk recommends the 1st scan be a "Thorough" scan, is this vital? The reason I'm asking these guestions is Because the "Full" and "Thorough" modes look like it's going to take days to complete, and I've tried to copy a produced DV video clip from my "C" drive to the external "F" drive and playback is very slow and the sound is garbulled(SP). The clip plays fine off the "C" drive. Can the format and scan disk cause this?

NO not really. The problem you are experiencing is because of the amount of data required for movies is too much for the USB cable to handle and that is why your play back seems slow.
You can run a quick format and a thorough scandisk is not required. Is it too late to get an internal drive.

Theoran- Thanks for the advice. The box for the hard drive said "ideal for storage video editing, MP3 music, etc, etc. It'll go back tomorrow for return and we'll look at other alternatives.
Buy the way you have allot of good stuff at your page "The Ramblings..."
