Can anyone recommend a good buy for a general purpose digital (family use) and where to get a good deal.

There are so many cameras it's hard to decide. Pick a couple features you must have in your price range and go from there. I would recommend you don't buy anything less than 3 megapixel and with a 3x optical zoom.

As far as where to buy... it depends on price and model, etc. You can check price and vendor ratings at the sites listed above.
