Video to DVD help

Hi
Can anyone tell me how to take a video and burn it on to a dvd please? I have a plextor 708A writer andf the usual software. If its a long and complicated process can anyone link me to a site that explains it...the ones I have found make it appear very complicated. Maybe it is? Would be grateful for any advice
