Is there any way to change who the computer is registered to? On the system properties---general tab---it says who the computer is regeistered to, etc... Well, I have a used computer and would like to delete the name of the guy who owned it before me. BTW, I am running Windows ME. It is an e-machine 633id. I have the restore disks but would really prefer not to have to do a reinstall. Is there any way to go into the registry and change it? Thanks for any response.
K. :)

Yes you can.

If you are happy using RegEdit then goto
Start>Run>
type REGEDIT then press return.

* It's always good to backup before you mess with the registry, even though this is only a small task.
Click Registry>Export Registry File>
Select to Export All.

User Data:
Click Edit>Find>
type in the the full or part text of the current text. (e.g. Mr Smith)

The Location you are looking for is

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RegisteredOrganization
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RegisteredOwner

Just double-click the key name in the Right-Hand pane to change the value.

Another way to do it is to use X-TEQ setup
Download: http://www.xteq.com/products/xset/

Open the program (my version opens from the Control Panel)
Click X-Setup, then the "Launch Default UI" button.
Goto System>User Data>Windows User Data>
Change the values here.

Not sure if this what you are looking for...

http://www.tentil.com/tips.html

Scroll down to Wanna change your computer's name? (Registered Owner)

If that isn't it, let us know.

X-TEQ can also alter most of the tips from that link.

It give a nice interface so that you don't have to delve into the depths of the registry.
