Hi there folks,

I am trying to set up a small home network. I have a desktop computer and laptop both connected via a direct cable. I have managed to set up them up so I can use the desktop broadband connection via my laptop, and I can also see my laptop files from my desktop, however I can't seem to access my desktop files from my laptop which is what I really need. Has anybody got any suggestions???

Many thanks.

What OS's on each PC?
Did you setup the netowrk yourself or use a WIndows Wizard?

What shares do you have on the desktop?

Try a shortcut on the laptop.
create a shortcut with the address
\\desktopname\sharename (file://\desktopnamesharename)

XP on both computers, I've used the wizard and set some settings myself, some I'm not really sure what I was doing!

try the shortcut method mentioned above.

Also make sure the desktop has shared folders available.

Another thing you may have to do is have the same user accounts on both systems.

So, if you have a user called glenn on the laptop then create a user account for glenn on the desktop
